FAQs
Where are your books published?
At the moment Pages & Co is published, or scheduled to be published in Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine and the US, as well as here in the UK. They are sometimes published under slightly different titles, but are the same story inside! There’ll be more updates on where Whetherwhy will be translated in upcoming months.
How many books have you written?
There are six books in the Pages & Co series, which is published in full in the UK and the US. In some countries, it is just the first three which are published as there is a natural stopping point at the end of book three.
Tilly and the Bookwanderers (The Bookwanderers in America)
Tilly and the Lost Fairy Tales (The Lost Fairy Tales in America)
Tilly and the Map of Stories (The Map of Stories in America)
The Book Smugglers
The Treehouse Library
The Last Bookwanderer
There will be four books in the Chronicles of Whetherwhy series. The first is called the Age of Enchantment.
Who illustrates your books?
In the UK and the US, and some other countries, Pages & Co is illustrated by Paola Escobar (books 1-3) and Marco Guadalupi (books 4-6). The Chronicles of Whetherwhy are illustrated by David Wyatt with covers by Artem Chebokha. All the illustrations from the book used on this website are by Paola, Marco, David or Artem and shouldn’t be shared without permission. You can use any of the images in the gallery for homework projects without permission!
What else have you written?
I am lucky that I get to write all sorts of different things for my job. As well as Pages & Co and Whetherwhy I have edited two anthologies for the British Library , you can find out more on the “Books” page. I’ve also written a dyslexia-friendly novella for Barrington Stoke called Hetty and the Battle of the Books. I have also contributed a short story for a book for adults inspired by Wuthering Heights and edited by Kate Mosse, and a short story within the Pages & Co world called Unbirthday for First Edition, an anthology from Goldsboro Books to celebrate their 21st birthday.
As well as books I also write articles and interview people for magazines, newspapers and online outlets. I write about books, publishing, feminism and theatre. I used to work at a magazine called The Bookseller, which is all about the publishing industry, and have also been the Literary Editor for ELLE UK. I write regularly about theatre for The Stage.
Can I write to you?
I love hearing from readers! You can write to me via my publishers at Anna James c/o HarperCollins Children’s, The News Building, 1 London Bridge Street, London, SE1 9GF, UK. I always reply to letters, although sometimes there might be a delay on it arriving with me and my replying, depending on what stage I am at with writing my next book!
Where can I get a signed book?
If you come to one of my events at a bookshop or festival, or if I visit your school, I would love to sign your books! There are also sometimes opportunities to buy pre-signed books through bookshops, usually just after a new book has been published. You can also always contact my local independent bookshop, the Children’s Bookshop in Muswell Hill, London, who will be able to arrange a personalised book for you. They ship internationally if you contact them directly to confirm postage arrangements.
Will you visit my school?
I love visiting schools and run assembly-style events and workshops for Years 2 - 7. My author events are organised by Authors Aloud, who you can get in touch with on the “Events” page.
Will you visit a bookshop near me?
I love doing events at bookshops and these are organised by my publisher. If there aren’t any events near you on my Events page, the best thing to do is let your local bookshop know you’d like a visit.
Is Pages & Co going to be a TV show?
Possibly but not any time soon! It was very nearly a TV show, with a brilliant script (not written by me!) but unfortunately it didn’t get past the last stage. If there’s ever any news on that front I’ll post about it on my social media - I’m @acaseforbooks everywhere and post most regularly on Instagram.
I want to be a writer, do you have any advice?
The bit of advice that all writers will tell you is to read as much as you can, and that’s because it’s the best advice! It’s how you learn what you like and don’t like, and how authors learn to create characters and plots. Also, if you write something you would like to read, you can’t go too far wrong. But remember that, especially when you are young, writing and reading should mainly be for fun so don’t put any pressure on yourself!
